What is the name of the unique animal seen in the picture?
The axolotl, Ambystoma mexicanum, is a paedomorphic salamander related to the tiger salamander. The species was originally found in several lakes, such as Lake Xochimilco underlying Mexico City. Axolotls are unusual among amphibians in that they reach adulthood without undergoing metamorphosis. Instead of taking to the land, adults remain aquatic and gilled.
The axolotl is carnivorous, consuming small prey such as molluscs, worms, insects, other arthropods, and small fish in the wild. Axolotls locate food by smell, and will "snap" at any potential meal, sucking the food into their stomachs with vacuum force.

Becoming quite popular as pets now but this is cruel as they are becoming extinct in the wild a lot of that is due to this pet trade

We have one in the Belle Isle Aquarium in Detroit. Just visited a few weeks ago . And I remember the Mad Magazine issues. Really cue but NOT a pet.
