Michael Jeffrey Jordan (New York; February 17, 1963) is a former American basketball player. He currently owns the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA. He is considered by most fans and experts to be the greatest basketball player of all time. He retired permanently in 2003 with the Washington Wizards, having done so twice before, in 1993 and 1999, after playing 13 seasons with the Chicago Bulls.

He won six championships with the Chicago Bulls, averaging 30.1 points per game throughout his career, the highest average in league history. He also won 10 scoring titles, five season MVPs, and six Finals MVPs; he was named to the All-NBA First Team ten times, the All-Defensive Team nine times, won the All-NBA All-Star steals for three years, and won the All-NBA Defensive Player of the Year award.

Since 1983, he has appeared on the cover of the prestigious sports magazine Sports Illustrated on a record 50 occasions, in addition to being named Sportsman of the Year in 1991 and the best athlete of the 20th century by ESPN and second only to Babe Ruth by the Associated Press.
