The Schnauzer originated from Germany. The word "Schnauzer" itself comes from the German word for "snout" and refers to the "mustache" or "beard" many dogs of this breed have.

They were originally bred to catch vermin and serve as guardians. These dogs come in Standard, Miniature and Giant sizes. The Standard and Giant ones are Working class dogs, and the Miniature Schnauzer is a terrier. Miniature ones are the most popular among Schnauzer and considered to be one of the most popular dog breeds in the world.

Being raised and trained in a proper way, Schnauzers easily get along with their families and become amiable pets. They love kids and playing with them, also being very reliable protectors.
