What is the Perfume hoax?
The perfume hoax is an urban legend about people approaching others claiming to sell a perfume and spraying them with ether or another chemical to knock the person out, allowing the "seller" to rob them.
Although the perfume hoax began in the United States, the tale has spread internationally. Emails describing the perfume hoax have been found circulating New Zealand, Ireland and the United Kingdom just to name a few. All of the relevant details stay the same, but specifics are given a local flare. Each time the perfume hoax is passed on, it is under the guise of a story that's happened to a friend of a friend.

The reference is jacked up! 🙄 I remember this happening years ago. It freaks me out how crooks come up with odd ploys to trick unsuspecting victims into getting robbed!😒 (Be safe out there and don't smell perfume in a mall parking lot! Use your common sense)

The author tells about a "hoax" that in the first place sounds implausible on the surface and attaches an article (ehow.com) that talks about some mens ministry that has nothing to do with any hoax.
This question is at best a hoax and needs to be eliminated.

Flavour - not flare. A flare - like that when you light a match or let off a flare from a flare gun. Flair means a talent, so that's not correct either. Flavour would be closest, meaning something distinctive to the region.
