What is the range of the "International Scale of Nuclear Accidents"?
The International Nuclear Event Scale (INES) was introduced by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to allow communication without lack of important safety information in the event of nuclear accidents. and facilitate the knowledge of the media and the population of its importance in terms of security.
It ranges from level 0 to 7. Level 0 being those events that have no impact on security, levels 1 to 3 those that do not have a significant consequence on the population and the environment and are classified as "incidents" and higher levels for those classified as "accidents".
The Chernobyl accidents of April 26, 1986 and the Fukushima accident of March 11, 2011, have been classified as level 7.
Level 7 INES: Major accident.
Level 6 INES: Serious accident.
Level 5 INES: Accident with extensive consequences.
Level 4 INES: Accident with local and municipal consequences.
Level 3 INES: serious incident.
Level 2 INES: incident.
Level 1 INES: anomaly.
Level 0 INES: deviation.
Out of scale, is any event that does not meet any of the conditions specified in any of the different INES levels, such as military activities.
