What is the tallest dam in the United States of America?
At 770 feet (235 meters) tall, Oroville Dam is the tallest in the US. Built on the Feather River in California, Oroville is an earthfill dam which created Lake Oroville.
Hoover Dam, however is the tallest concrete-gravity arch type of dam. Standing at 726.4 ft (221.4 m) tall Hoover is the second tallest.
Glen Canyon Dam is fourth tallest at 710 ft (220 m).
Grand Coulee Dam is eleventh at only 550 ft (168 m).

Answered another question on the Oroville Dam just yesterday. It seems to be more popular thsn I had thought.

osborntd, Where did you learn that. The dam had a spillway problem, there was a precautionary evacuation 12-14 February 2017, the spillway was fixed. The lake is currently full or neatly so. No change was or is necessary.

Tom Seigo, An evacuation was in effect from 12 February 2017 that lasted until 14 February. The spillway was fixed during that time and the dam did not break. There was no loss of life.

If memory serves me correctly, the Oroville Dam broke earlier this year causing much damage and loss of property. Don't recall if there was loss of lives.

I remembered this because it was all over the news with our recent rains in California.They had to evacuate Oroville because they thought the dam was going to over flow.
