What is the term for a person with assets of over 1,000 million dollars?
A billionaire, in countries that use the short scale number naming system, is a person with a net worth of at least one billion (1,000,000,000) units of a given currency, usually major currencies such as the United States dollar, the euro, or the pound sterling. Forbes magazine updates a complete global list of known U.S. dollar billionaires every year. John D. Rockefeller was the first billionaire in history, accomplishing this feat in 1916. In the entire world there are just 1,011 billionaires-individuals with over $1,000 million in assets.

There are now more than 2500 billionaires in the world, if each of these gave away 1% of their wealth , it would eradicate world poverty, which shows how the uneven distribution of the wealth of the world (capitalism) doesn’t work!

I may be totally wrong but isn't there a difference in this in the UK and the US so what one says is a billionaire is not in the other

Don't know if it's changed, but I was taught in school that in the UK a billion is a million million not a thousand million!

The clue is probably in the term "short scale". Originally in Europe one thousand million was a milliard and a million million was a billion. Americans chose to call a thousand million a billion.
