Baileys Irish Cream is an Irish cream liqueur – an alcoholic drink flavoured with cream, cocoa, and Irish whiskey. Baileys is now one of Ireland’s most successful exports.

Baileys Original Irish Cream is made with Irish dairy cream and Irish whiskey, but “the cocoa beans and vanilla extract that give Baileys its rich chocolatey taste are harvested in West Africa and processed in France.

Baileys creators Gluckman and Jago allude to it as a “girly drink,” and “a woman’s drink,” respectively. In 2014, Baileys launched a female-focused ad campaign.

Baileys is incorporated into dessert recipes including cheesecake, brownies, and frozen yogurt.

An apéritif is meant to stimulate the appetite, and therefore it's usually dry and low in alcohol. A cocktail can count as an apéritif, too, but of course after too many, you probably won't have much appetite for dinner. A digestif is meant to stimulate digestion.
