What movie won the Oscar for best picture 2014?

An array of brilliants films were up for nomination, but "12 Years a Slave” ultimately took home the honors for its incredible story of Solomon Northup, a free man who desperately struggles to survive as a slave in pre-Civil War America, while Lupita Nyong'o gave a touching tribute speech for her Best Supporting Actress win for the same film.

"12 Years a Slave" was acclaimed by critics, and was named the best film of 2013 by several media outlets. It was also awarded the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Drama

Don't watch the Oscars. Seldom agree with their picks. Haven't bought a movie ticket since Titanic. I watch em on TV, when my over priced cable and satellite subscription chooses to provide them to me.

Love movies, have only missed one televised Oscar presentation in the last 35 years, and rarely agree with the Academy choice for best picture with last year’s “Green Book” being the exception!!!! However, Viggo Mortensen should have shared the limelight with Mahershala Ali for best supporting actor!!
