What prize did Martin Luther King win in 1964?

Martin Luther King, Jr. was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in December of 1964. Less than 6 months prior to the ceremony in Oslo, Norway, the Civil Rights Act had been signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The legislation gave the federal government the authority to enforce desegregation of public accommodations, and it outlawed discrimination in publicly owned facilities, as well as in employment.

Upon reading about the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. being awarded the "Nobel Peace Prize" for his efforts bring about equality, in all walks of life. I believe that the fact of a "man of color" holding the highest office, in the land, would definitely make him proud, of how far that the United States has come, after the passing of the "Civil Rights Act" (50) years ago this year.

James Earl Ray was, no doubt, a redneck, growing up in the poorest of backwoods poverty. I sometimes wonder if he truly acted alone. Yes, he did the shooting, and was convicted. But could there have been more to it??

I’m Southern and white. I admired MLK, JR. He was a good man seeking freedom for all humanity. Just because his skin was dark should not mean the man’s objective should be demeaned or disregarded.
