What state has the highest mean elevation?

Skiers consider Colorado their paradise not for nothing: the state has more mountain peaks reaching 14,000 feet than any other state. Moreover, the world's largest flat-top plateau is also located in Colorado and named "Grand Mesa". Colorado has an average elevation of 6,800 ft above sea level followed by Wyoming with a mean elevation of 6,700 ft above sea level. Utah is third with a mean elevation of 6,100 ft above sea level. Fourth is New Mexico. The states with highest mean elevation are dominated by the Rocky Mountains. These areas are characterized by mountains and high (elevated) plains.

Question and answer is correct. The question asks about highest "mean" elevation, not highest elevation. Those saying it's a wrong answer need to read the question again, and understand what it's asking.

Allen Lerch, You are wrong. Alaska's mean elevation is only 1,900 ft. Sure Denali is high but most of the state is not mountainous. Colorado however is almost all mountains. It's mean elevation is 6,800 ft. Way higher than Alaska. If fact Alaska is ranked14th, just behind Kansas!

strongdarren, Denali is only one high point in Alaska. There is a whole lot of coastline to offset that height. On the other hand, Colorado is pretty much all mountains with no coastline. Please read the definition of 'mean elevation'

At first I thought Alaska, but then realized all the coastline and sea level, so I had to go with a state that the entire state is above sea level. Hence, Colorado.
