What state is known as the Centennial State?
Colorado is nicknamed the Centennial State because it entered the union in 1876, 100 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Besides being famous for the historical event, the state is also known as being rich with natural resources, especially with hydrocarbon.

It never fails... Someone will always criticize quiz club for something, and most of the time that person is embarrassingly wrong. It's like a lot of you have no clue google exists.

Colorado does not mean Red. Rojo is Red, Colorado is Colored.

I don't know how common it was, but at least one baby born in 1876 was given a middle name of "Centennial."
It was Mordecai Peter Centennial Brown, who became a hall of fame pitcher for the Chicago Cubs. Brown was nicknamed "Three-Finger" Brown because he lost part of his right index finger in a mining incident as a child.

Burleigh Grimes, something I have been saying the same since I started playing Quizz Club. But, I have discovered that a lot of people say Google has incorrect information and they use other alternative sources to get information. My personal spin on that is, those people search until they find information that is MORE pleasing to them. It boils down to what we learned in our education: we were taught from different sources in different levels of school and/or college. Thus, we got varying opinions and views. It doesn't mean one view is wrong and the other is right, just different perspectives of the same subject.

Christy Jarrett, Ninas post (above) is marked as 5 years ago. I've been waiting to see her comments return. In the past she mentioned taking trips. Maybe she's on a long trip now. ;>)

Burleigh Grimes, Yes you're correct as long as you google after the question and not before.

I had no clue that Colorado meant red as well as rojo, which is what I was taught in school. I knew the answer to the question, though, since I lived near Denver for 9 years. It gets really cold, but a different kind of cold than it is where I'm at now where the humidity turns the cold into some monster than can go right through your clothes. It also gets really hot, but again, less humidity so it's a dry heat. Still very uncomfortable.

I know this is one of the nicknames of Colorado, but so is the nickname Rocky Mountain State; although some states only have one nickname, some states use more than one..
