The northern part of the town is in the province of Quebéc, while the southern part is in the state of Vermont. Some buildings within the town straddle the border.

Canusa Street is one of the streets where the centre line marks the border, so your neighbours across the street live in a different country.

Although the streets connecting the two countries are blocked to vehicles, pedestrians are normally allowed to walk between the two countries without restrictions. The only way you can cross in a vehicle is via U.S. Interstate 91/Quebéc Route 55 where there is a "legal" border crossing and a duty-free shop.
