What type of matter has no definite shape but has a definite volume?
A "liquid" is a nearly incompressible fluid that conforms to the shape of its container but retains a (nearly) constant volume independent of pressure. As such, it is one of the four fundamental states of matter (the others being solid, gas, and plasma) and is the only state with definite volume but no fixed shape. A liquid is made up of tiny vibrating particles of matter, such as atoms, held together by intermolecular bonds.

Gas doesn't have a shape but a definite volume also.

Gases can expand or contract, so can change their volume depending on the pressure that is exerted upon them.

I tended to agree with the "gas" comment, but gas has a definite volume only at a set pressure. Change the pressure, the volume changes. AS the oressure was not mentioned, I went for liquid.

David Hovis, what if there is no container? Which is true for 99.9% of all known gas in the universe. Only on Earth, as far as we know, do we try to constrain a gas by fitting it into a container.
