What U.S. State capital is only accessible by boat or plane?

Land locked by mountains and sea, Alaska's residents can only access their state capital by plane or by the Alaska Marine Highway System. This in turn makes Juneau, the capital of the largest US state, a de-facto island city in terms of transportation. All goods come in or out only by plane or boat, in spite of the city being located on the Alaskan mainland. A lot of tourists still come to Alaska and its capital every year to enjoy the incredible views of this region. By the way, the area of Juneau is even bigger than that of the smallest US state, Rhode Island!

This is a good thing: I'll elaborate; 1) To access mines, weither it be Gold,Lead or Coal. You need to build an infrastructure to support it. 2) To drill for oil you need to support it with the same or similar system. 3) And finally to harvest timber you need to do it sensible. This also demands a system of highway to transport logs to sawmills. All this takes manpower and money. So as long as this remains inassessable the natural resources of Alaska remain safe

William Laughlin...I, seriously, doubt that people read the entire question, before they answer it! I think, out of these comments, 11 people commented, "What about Honolulu, Hawai'i...It's only accessible by boat, or plane"! Which, of course, is NOT true, 'cause you can definitely drive to there, from any part of Oahu! I've been there, and we drove from Waikiki Beach, to Honolulu, one day! :)

Timothy Foleyjr Tim, have you ever been to the interior of Alaska. The infrastructure for the oil industry exists. When I was there, there was no massive logging industry because the trees didn't grow big enough to harvest. By the way, there are roads and hi ways in Alaska. It's not a complete wilderness.

Yes you have to fly to the Hawaiian Islands but once you arrive on Oahu, where Honolulu is located, you can drive in, around and out of Honolulu. There are no roads in Juneau Alaska.
