Actress Marilyn Monroe was born as Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. Her childhood was difficult, as Norma grew up without her father and had strained relations with her mother, half-sister, and other relatives. The girl, who would become an everlasting sex symbol, had to spend much of her time in foster homes and orphanages, as she didn't receive enough attention from her mother.

Norma first married at the age of 16 to escape sexual harassment she was suffering from on the orphanages. The marriage lasted four years: the couple divorced, when Norma changed her name to Marilyn and decided to focus on filming career, already being quite a successful model.

During her career, Monroe's films grossed over $200 million. Monroe died of a drug overdose on August 5, 1962 at only 36 years old.
