The War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain was a conflict fought over the right of neutral countries to participate in foreign trade without the interference of other nations and the desire of many in the United States to end British occupation of Canada. The war, which lasted from 1812 to 1815, proved inconclusive, with both countries agreeing to revert to their prewar status as much as possible. Although the dispute leading to the War of 1812 was over freedom of the seas, the war itself was fought chiefly on land.

Kat, Actually Greta Britain wanted to annex parts of the US to create an independent Native American nation to prevent further American expansion westward and contain it to the original 13 colonies. Great Britain wasn't volunteering any of its land in Canada toward the proposed nation.
