What was the first movie ever made?
The Horse in Motion is a series of cabinet cards by Eadweard Muybridge, including six cards that each show a sequential series of six to twelve "automatic electro-photographs" depicting the movement of a horse. Muybridge shot the photographs in June 1878. An additional card reprinted the single image of the horse "Occident" trotting at high speed, which had previously been published by Muybridge in 1877.

Motion-photography. Photo-cards flipped over sequentially is not a movie film. Wrong answer of the question asked. Roundhay Garden Scene is the first actual movie on film. Or at least the oldest surviving.

The Roundhay Garden scene, filmed in Leeds on the 14th October 1888, is considered to be not only the oldest surviving motion film, but also the FIRST motion film. Taking photographs and 'flicking them through is in no way seen as making a motion picture.
