Before 1791, Vermont was a territory claimed by New York and New Hampshire, but on the 1st of March Vermont joined the Union, becoming the first state after the thirteen colonies. Vermont was also the first territory where the slavery was partially abolished. Nowadays the state is the second least populous state in the US after Wyoming. Vermont is popular for its picturesque ski and fishing areas, great landscapes and well-developed tourism industry, which brings great income.
