What was the name of the brother of the famous Brontë sister's?

Patrick Branwell Brontë (26 June 1817 – 24 September 1848), better known as Branwell Brontë, was an English painter and writer. He was the only son of the Brontë family, and brother of the writers Charlotte, Emily and Anne. He was the fourth of six children and the only son of Patrick Brontë (1777–1861) and his wife, Maria Branwell Brontë (1783–1821). He was born in Thornton, near Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire.

Brontë was rigorously tutored at home by his father, and shared some of his sisters’ creative talent, earning praise for his poetry and translations from the classics. But he drifted between jobs, supporting himself by portrait-painting, and gave way to drug and alcohol addiction, apparently worsened by a failed relationship with a married woman, leading to his early death.

It's the saddest thing when an only son becomes the families disappointment . Whether he failed under the weight of his clever fathers expectations or whether he just felt overshadowed by his sister's cleverness and successful publishing we will never know. What we do know was the fact that he was profoundly loved. Patrick Brontë his father cradled his son in his arms as he lay dying on his father's great four poster bed in the main bedroom in the vicarage. He most possibly died of consumption as did his sister's Emily and Anne. Excaberated by his use of opium and excessive drinking nbHe was 31 when he died. .

Tough question; didn't know there was a brother, and guessed wrong. WHY do so many people pluralize nouns by adding apostrophe-s? It's exasperating. Did so many millions of people sleep through first or second grade?

It seems that Patrick was his given first name, however even the wikipedia article refers to him as Branwell, his middle name when talking about him. I imagine that he preferred using Branwell so as not to get confused with his father. In my own case, I know the confusion that it causes because my first name is the same as my father's. I had to use a nickname until I moved out of my parents house. My many cousins are still confused.
