Speedee was McDonald's first mascot, from the 1950s through to the early 1960s, before being replaced by Archie McDonald. Prior to the golden arches, he was the logo for the restaurant.

Speedie was a hamburger with a chefs hat and cook's clothing, sometimes holding a sign saying "I'm Speedee". Even though he was the mascot, he appeared in no commercials. At the time "Speedy" was the name of the Alker Seltzer mascot, so to avoid confusion, a new mascot called Archie McDonald replaced Speedee. A short time later, in 1963, he was also replaced. Willard Scott created the new mascot, who was called Ronald McDonald, and portrayed him until 1965. Ronald McDonald has remained the mascot to the present day.
