What was the name of the NFL before 1922?

1920-The American Professional Football Association becomes the country's first organized professional football league.

Pro football was in a state of confusion due to three major problems:

1.Dramatically rising salaries.

2. Players continually jumping from one team to another following the highest offer.

3.The use of college players still enrolled in school.

A league in which all the members would follow the same rules seemed the answer. An organizational meeting, at which the Akron Pros, Canton Bulldogs, Cleveland Indians, and Dayton Triangles were represented, was held at the Jordan and Hupmobile auto showroom in Canton Ohio on August 20. This meeting resulted in the formation of the American Professional Football Conference.

1922-The APFA becomes the National Football League.The American Professional Football Association changed its name to the National Football League on June 24.

catmom, almost made illegal at the turn of the 19th century because of it's violence, but Pres. Roosevelt signed two executive orders to keep it legal. He had two sons at Harvard who were on their football team.

catmom, My dad and my uncles played football way back in the late 1920's. Even in his late 40's and 50's he still looked like some of the pro's of today. When I entered high school ALL of them told me to not go out for football even though they loved the game. They told me that the permanent injuries you received weren't worth it.
