What year on record has been the warmest for global warming?

Earth’s 2015 surface temperatures were the warmest since modern record keeping began in 1880, according to independent analyses by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Globally averaged temperatures in 2015 shattered the previous mark set in 2014 by 0.23 degrees Fahrenheit (0.13 Celsius). Only once before, in 1998, has the new record been greater than the old record by this much.

The 2015 temperatures continue a long-term warming trend, according to analyses by scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York (GISTEMP). NOAA scientists concur with the finding that 2015 was the warmest year on record based on separate, independent analyses of the data. Accordingly, global warming is now expected to continue, and it will accelerate if no action is taken.

2015 was not only the warmest year on record, it broke the record by the largest margin by which the record has been broken.

Earth's climate has been much warmer at times in the distant past and much colder at other times in the past. Many of the causes for the Earth's climate cycles are well understood. Past changes have been relatively gradual, taking thousands or tens of thousands of years. Gradual climate change allows most plant and animal species enough time to adapt, evolve, or migrate. The problem is that the rate of change that appears to be happening now is rapid compared to changes in the past. Human population has exploded in extremely short time geologically. I think that it will prove to be in our best interests long term to do what we can to mitigate the causes of rapid warming that we can. These causes are also well understood by those that choose to study them and not just bury their head in the sand.

Let's be blithely selfish in our ignorance and carelessness and only worry about ourselves. Our children and grandchildren are on their own. Why worry about them? We had it good and that's really all that matters, right?

Plant trees. Stop cutting what trees there are. Stop poluting the waterways. Jobs can be created by cleaning up the shitholes of the world. I know there is more to it than trees...but they hold the ground together to help stop erosion, provide shelter for wildlife and cool shade for even us. So many natural uses.

Actually, not quite correct, but possibly near enough. the hottest years on record were 2020 and 2016. Countries committed under the 2015 Paris Agreement to try to limit global temperature rise to 1.5C (2.7F), the level scientists have said would avoid its worst impacts. That would require emissions to roughly halve by 2030, but so far they have charged higher.

Even if humans didn't exist there would be global warming followed by an ice age and so on and so on. We humans are just making it happen a lot faster to our own demise. I personally don't care. As a species humans are an blight on the planet. One word describes us - selfish. People say they care about the whole but they don't. When it comes down to it everyone will choose their own family, their own children, over anything else. And that is where we fail.
