World Kidney Day seeks to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health, and inform the world about ways to prevent kidney disease. Every year, countless local and national events are organised by kidney charities, healthcare professionals, patient groups and individuals who want to make a difference. We are encouraging everyone to get behind the campaign and try to organise an activity or event to celebrate the day and draw public attention to the need for kidney health - what can be done to protect kidneys before disease strikes, and to assist patients who already have chronic kidney disease. World Kidney Day began in 2006 and the global campaign highlights a particular theme every year.
