Every year, World Physical Therapy Day is celebrated on September 8 to raise awareness about the important role of physiotherapists in keeping people fit and well. Physical therapy helps individuals to recover from an injury and develop and maintain maximum movement of the body and physical function. Through physical therapy, chronic conditions and future injuries are also dealt with. It also gives pain relief and makes amendments to recurrent problems. World Therapy Day 2021 focuses on rehabilitation and Long COVID and the role of physical therapists in management and treatment of people affected by Long COVID.

The World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) is the only International representation for physical therapists in the world. By representing more than 450,000 PTs throughout the world, it has members from over 100 other different member organizations. The WCPT began World Physical Day back in 1996. Every year on September 8th, "Physical therapists from all over the world raise awareness about the crucial contribution the profession makes to keeping people well, mobile and independent".
