Where did Marco Polo come from?
Marco Polo was a Venetian merchant traveller whose travels are recorded in Livres des merveilles du monde (Book of the Marvels of the World, also known as The Travels of Marco Polo, c. 1300), a book that introduced Europeans to Central Asia and China. By the way, Polo's travels were written down by Rustichello of Pisa in prison, where they were chambered together. Rustichello became Polo's ghostwriter. The famous book had been completed by the time of Polo and Rustichello's release in 1299.

I have read quite a lot about Marco. It is generally considered that he was born in Venice, not Korcula (Constantinople has also been claimed).
I have friends from Korcula, who are very proud that his parents were from there. But, that he was not born there.
He was a prisoner of war. Held by the Genoans, who were at war with Venice.
