Edward Regan Murphy (born April 3, 1961) is an American actor, comedian, and singer. Murphy was a regular cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1980 to 1984. He has worked as a stand-up comedian and was ranked No. 10 on Comedy Central's list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time.

In films, Murphy has received Golden Globe Award nominations for his performances in 48 Hrs., the Beverly Hills Cop series, Trading Places, and The Nutty Professor. In 2007, he won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of soul singer James "Thunder" Early in Dreamgirls.

Murphy's work as a voice actor in films includes Thurgood Stubbs in The PJs, Donkey in DreamWorks Animation's Shrek series, and the Chinese dragon Mushu in Disney's Mulan. In some films, he plays multiple roles in addition to his main character.

Eddie Murphy is one of the greatest comedic minds of our times and probably the most under appreciated actor/ comic/ genius, and so was his brother Charlie Murphy, and he is also a man of character and moral fiber, and the fact that he chose not to attack Bill Cosby at that awards ceremony shows that he is a man of immeasurable class, I have been a lifelong fan of his, and when Hollywood tried to scandalize him many times just proves how awesome he is, because they don’t hate you if you suck, there’s only an open bar on haterade when they fear your greatness. When my brothers, one murdered and another who committed suicide, died a day short of a year apart it was Eddie Murphy and his hilarious films and antics that made me want to laugh again, he made me want to live again, because before the moment he helped me to rediscover my laughter, all I wanted to do was die. He saved my life and he didn’t even know it, but I sure do, and I hope that he is doing awesome and that he and is family are happy and healthy as well and may he have success beyond belief in this life, because he helped me mine back and he may never know what he did for me all the times I could barely breathe because the pain in my chest was so bad because I missed my big brothers, he helped me more than I can ever express in words, and I can’t thank him enough, and he has gotten far too little appreciation from Hollywood and his brother Charlie is another hilarious and super-talented actor/comic may he Rest In Peace, but let the haters hate, because they do that when you are GREAT!!!
