Victor Jory (November 1902 – February 1982) was a Canadian-American actor of stage, film, and TV. In "Gone with the Wind" (1939), Jory played the carpetbagger Jonas Wilkerson. Wilkerson dies in the year 1866. He was the overseer of Tara, a cotton plantation in the state of Georgia. He later becomes Head of the Freedman's Bureau. Because of his post-war success and sympathy for the Yankee cause, he is seen by the South as a "carpetbagger", an opportunist.

His actions during the US Civil War are unknown, though he most likely avoided service because of his sympathy for the Union cause. When the Yankees win, Jonas uses his connections to be appointed Head of the Freedman's Bureau. After acquiring wealth and a position, he marries Emmie. His friend Mr. Hilton also works at the office and marries Cathleen Calvert.

Wilkerson tries to purchase Tara from Scarlett O'Hara as Emmie wants to live there, but after he is denied this he raises the taxes on Tara. Scarlett must obtain a second marriage to Frank Kennedy to keep her house.

Noting Jory's film career, it spans over 40 years and includes dozens of good, fair, and bad pictures. Along with ''Gone With the Wind'', he appeared in ''State Fair'' (1933), ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' (1935), ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'' (1938), ''The Miracle Worker'' (1962), "Papillon" (1973), and several others.
