'Scott & Bailey' is a British crime drama that ran from 2011 until 2016. It starred Lesley Sharp and Suranne Jones as the titular detectives Janet Scott and Rachel Bailey. Both characters are fictional members of the Syndicate Nine Major Incident Team (MIT) of the Manchester Metropolitan Police.

Suranne Jones came up with the idea for 'Scott & Bailey' when talking to the actress Sally Lindsay. They agreed there was a need for more roles for women "that weren't wife-of, sidekick-to, mother-of, mistress-to, etc." Jones always envisaged herself playing Bailey and Lindsay wanted to play Scott but became pregnant with twins before filming began. The role of Janet Scott was given to Lesley Sharp instead.

Lesley Sharp is an English stage, film and television actress, who has started in many British television shows, including 'Clocking Off' (2000-2001) and 'Afterlife' (2005-2006). She has also starred in films, such as 'The Full Monty' (2007), for which she was nominated for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

Since starring in 'Scott & Bailey', Sharp has appeared in the first season of 'Fate: The Winx Saga' on Netflix and took the lead role in the play 'Philoctetes' at the National Theatre (2021).
