The popular actress who turned down the role of Alexis Carrington in the U.S. TV series "Dynasty" was Sophia Loren. Once Loren was out, Collins got called to an audition for "Dynasty" in 1981. She took the role of Alexis Carrington Colby.

Records concerning the show, point out that the creators of the series, Richard and Esther Shapiro, had named Blake's ex-wife Madeline Carrington. They wanted her to be played by Sophia Loren for four to six episodes. The writers, Eileen and Robert Mason Pollock, renamed her Alexis. They told executive producer Aaron Spelling that Loren was not right for the part. The Pollocks warned him that "If you get rid of this character in four episodes, you are throwing away hundreds of millions of dollars".

The Italian actress Sophia Loren (Sofia Villani Scicolone) was born in Rome on September 20, 1934.
