Which American photographer pioneered the Zone System?
With Fred Archer, Ansel Adams formulated the Zone System, a technique for translating perceived light into specific densities on negatives and paper, giving photographers better control over finished photographs. Although it originated with black-and-white sheet film, the Zone System is also applicable to roll film, both black-and-white and colour and to digital photography.

I wouldn't have known the answer to this question had I not been a photographer myself. I worked and studied with Eric Pinchen in Big Sur, CA. Everyone of the people named in this question were great photographer and worked primarily with large format cameras. I would just about bet that most people who got the correct answer to this question have no idea what "The Zone" is. And the only name they recognized as having anything to do with photography was the renowned Ansel Adams.
