After being elected president, Abraham Lincoln left his dog, Fido, in Springfield, but was given two kittens, Tabby and Dixie, from Secretary of State William Seward. He loved the cats so much that he once fed Tabby from the White House table during a formal dinner, which embarrassed his wife.
