“The Eagle has landed” is used colloquially to indicate any successful arrival or completion of a “mission” objective. Astronaut Neil Armstrong spoke the phrase to announce the successful landing of the Apollo 11 lunar module named “Eagle” in the Sea of Tranquility on the moon on July 20, 1969. Neil Alden Armstrong (August 1930 – August 2012) was an American test pilot and astronaut. He was the commander of the Apollo 11 moon landing mission which occurred on July 20, 1969. He and Buzz Aldrin were the first humans to land on the moon, and he was the first man to walk on the moon.
