Which city is known as the financial capital of India?

Mumbai is the state capital of Maharashtra, India. It's a densely populated city located on the west coast of the country. Being the financial capital of India, it's also one of the most famous Indian cities in the world. Mumbai is the richest city in the country with the Highest GDP of $209 Billion. It is also among the top 10 centers of commerce in the financial flow of the world. The city was earlier known as Bombay. By the way, the city was originally located on 7 closely located islands, which were later combined into one large coastal city. The process took about 60 years.

Same cities just changed names Bombay to Mumbai and Calcutta to Kolkata. I liked original names.

Frank Rizzuto I guess, seeing how the cities are named by the residents of the country, that THEY can choose the name they will be known by, not the residents of some foreign country.

As of 2015 Mumbai lost it’s financial capital position to New Delhi, who has now climbed up to hold the 30th rank.

Many of India's states and cities were renamed by the English 'invaders'. Mumbai was what the city was called in Marathi and was restored to that name in 1996. Calcutta was the English spelling of that city. Kolkata is a better phonetic spelling of how Bengalis pronounce the name. Here in New Zealand we have many instances of the colonial English 'discovering' and naming rivers, mountains, settlement areas that already had Māori names. Since Māori became an official NZ language, both the original Māori name and the English name are used eg Aotearoa/New Zealand, Aoraki/Mt Cook, Taranaki/Mt Egmont.
