Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento is a Honduran politician who is the 56th and current president of Honduras. She took office on 27 January 2022. She is the country's first female president, as well as the first president not to be a member of either the Liberal Party or the National Party since democracy was restored in 1982.

Castro was elected president of Honduras in the 2021 Honduran general election. Castro takes office amid myriad challenges, including an ongoing dispute about who will lead the newly elected Congress.

Castro, the 62-year-old leader of the left-wing Libre Party, won the November 28, 2021, election by a healthy margin, but recent political manoeuvring in the run-up to her inauguration on Thursday has distracted from what observers hoped would be a new beginning in the troubled nation.
