Which country has won the most men's World Cup Tournaments in soccer?

The 20 World Cup tournaments have been won by eight different national teams. Brazil have won five times, and they are the only team to have played in every tournament. The other World Cup winners are Germany and Italy, with four titles each; Argentina and inaugural winners Uruguay, with two titles each; and England, France and Spain, with one title each.

Ken Jackson, well said. Just one point: Caid is an extinct predecessor of Gaelic football, and, some argue, of rugby too. There is an unsubstantiated story that William Webb Ellis played caid with his cousins in Tipperary. In Northern Ireland many people would refer to soccer as football. So would some fans in Dublin and Dundalk. In pretty well every part of rural Republic of Ireland outside of Dublin and parts of the east coast football means Gaelic football. Long ago I heard one or two Irish alickadoos refer to rugby as football, but I think those people didn't get around the country much.

Albeck Wilson-Smith, it's known as sakka in Japan; in NZ football refers to the most popular sport, rugby union; in Australia it refers to Aussie rules or either code of rugby; in Ireland, it refers to Peil Ghaelach - more commonly known as Caid, or Gaelic football; in PNG the top competition is called the PNG Soccer League - the term football refers to the most popular sport there - rugby league; in South Africa it is interchangeable - can refer to both soccer or rugby union.The word Football appears in the name of the governing bodies in each country because they are affiliated with FIFA - but it's not the word that locals prefer to use for the sport.
