The 1924 Paris Olympic games was the last time that 15-a-side rugby was played. The team from the USA beat France in the final, leaving it as the last country to win the gold medal.

15-a-side rugby was played at the Olympic Games in 1900, 1908, 1920 and 1924. In 1924 the USA beat the French team by 17-3 to win the Gold medal. At the final whistle, French fans invaded the pitch, forcing police, and French players and officials, to protect the Americans. At the medal ceremony, The Star-Spangled Banner was drowned out by the booing and hissing of French fans, and the American team had to be escorted to their locker room under police protection. Besides the USA and French teams the only other country to send a rugby team to the 1924 Olympics was Romania.

Rugby sevens (7-a-side - a derivative of the 15-a-side game) was introduced at the 2016 Rio Games with the Fijian Team winning the men's Gold and Australia winning the women's Gold.
