"Lijepa naša domovino" ("Our Beautiful Homeland"), the national anthem of Croatia, is a hymn in style. Often simply referred to as "Lijepa naša" ("Our Beautiful") in Croatia, it is a phrase widely used as a metonym for the country.

The original lyrics were written by Croatian poet & lyricist Antun Mihanović (1796 - 1861) and first published under the title “Horvatska domovina” (“Croatian homeland”) in 1835. It was said that the melody was composed by Croatian Serb soldier & composer Josip Runjanin (1821 - 1878) in 1846.

On most occasions, only the first verse, as below, is performed.

Our beautiful homeland, / Oh so fearless and gracious,/ Our fathers' ancient glory, / May you be blessed forever.

The song officially became the state anthem of Croatia through amendments of the Constitution of Croatia adopted by the parliament of the SR Croatia on 29 February 1972.

The national anthems of other three countries are marches in style. "Tiến Quân Ca" ("Marching Army Song") is the national anthem of Vietnam. “Ḥumāt al-Ḥimá” ("Defenders of the Homeland") is the national anthem of Tunisia. Turkey’s national anthem is called "İstiklâl Marşı" (“Independence March”).
