Which emperor was the father of the infamous Roman emperor Commodus?
Lucius Aelius Aurelius Commodus became a Roman emperor on the 17th of March, 180 upon his father’s Marcus Aurelius death. Before this, Commodus was a co-emperor with his father for almost 3 years.
He was the first emperor to have both a father and grandfather (who had adopted his father) as the two preceding emperors.
Commodus is a very controversial figure in history. He was characterized as a cruel, callous and even inadequate man, who didn’t like to deal with state affairs preferring to devote himself to amusements and indulge in lust. He was assassinated in 192.

You're right, crucifixion is one of the worst deaths ever devised by mankind. The fact Commie inflicted such suffering on Maximus's family was by no way a heavy-handed device to make us hate him! That would just be too obvious :) x
