If you ever sleep in a hotel that leaves chocolate mints on the pillow, you have the famous British-American actor Cary Grant (born Archibald Alec Leach; January 18, 1904 – November 29, 1986) to thank for it.

Grant inspired this tradition when he stayed at the Mayfair Hotel in St. Louis, where he left a trail of chocolates for one of his lovers, ending with a chocolate on the pillow of her bed.

A hotel manager saw this and thought it would be a great idea to put chocolates on all the guests' pillows. From then on, chocolates or chocolate mints on the pillow became the height of hotel hospitality.
