Which film star represented Scotland in the Mr. Universe contest?

Sir Thomas Sean Connery (born 25 August 1930) is a retired Scottish actor and producer who has won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one of them being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award) and three Golden Globes (including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award).

Connery began bodybuilding at the age of 18, and from 1951 trained heavily with Ellington, a former gym instructor in the British army. While his official website claims he was third in the 1950 Mr. Universe contest, most sources place him in the 1953 competition, either third in the Junior class or failing to place in the Tall Man classification. Connery stated that he was soon deterred from bodybuilding when he found that the Americans frequently beat him in competitions because of sheer muscle size and, unlike Connery, refused to participate in athletic activity which could make them lose muscle mass.

He abandoned his native, beloved 'Scotland forever' (its even tattooed on one of his hands) for exotic tax havens decades ago but was still happy enough to accept a British knighthood. He's typical of so many ex-pat celebs who want their cake and eat it.

Daniel Craig the present ‘James Bond’ is by far the best actor ever in the role of ‘James Bond. His portrayal of ‘007’ in “Casino Royal” and his subsequent love affair with ‘Vesper’ makes the “British Avenger” for MI6 all the more ‘real’ . . . compared to the ‘tongue in cheek’ performance of’ “Sean Connery” in the role. I was a teenager in 1963. The first three movies: “Dr. No”, “From Russia With Love” (the best of the three) and “Goldfinger” could have stood alone for fifty years as a trilogy. The ‘Modern’ four films by the present “Bond” (Craig) my be considered the best treatment ever of the ‘Ian Fleming’ works.
