Made of silver gilt, the Wimbledon Men’s Championship trophy is 18 inches high (45.72 cm) with a diameter of 7.5 inches (19.05 cm). At the crest of the trophy is a pineapple.

The inscription on the trophy reads: “The All England Lawn Tennis Club Single Handed Championship of the World”, and around the bowl are engraved the dates and names of the champions.

It is not clearly known what the carving of the pineapple on the top of the cup is meant to signify. It has been suggested that it has to do with the tradition of British Royal Navy captains putting pineapple on top of their gateposts after returning from sea. It has also been surmised that in the 17th century, pineapples were such a rare and sought after commodity, affordable only to the rich and 'well-to-do', that having one on the dinner table signified a privileged social status, prestige and excellence at providing hospitality.
