Which health condition is treated using statins?

Statins are a group of medicines that can help lower the level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in the blood. LDL cholesterol is often referred to as "bad cholesterol", and statins reduce the production of it inside the liver. Having a high level of LDL cholesterol is potentially dangerous, as it can lead to a hardening and narrowing of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Statins come as tablets that are taken once a day. You usually have to continue taking statins for life because if you stop taking them, your cholesterol will return to a high level within a few weeks.

Many people who take statins experience no or very few side effects. Others experience some troublesome, but usually minor, side effects, such as diarrhoea, a headache or feeling sick. Your doctor should discuss the risks and benefits of taking statins if they're offered to you.

From what I've heard and read, statins have many bad side effects.

I have fairly high cholesterol and have been prescribed statins which I refuse as the side effects are more sever.

Eating walnuts and pistachios are a much healthier way to reduce cholesterol levels. Big pharma meds cause side effects so they can up sell other meds. I'm glad, that I got my father and myself, off of this poison.

Diet and exercise can help lower cholesterol. It is triglycerides that are the culprit to forming plaque in the arteries especially the coronary arteries. There are meds to help make the blood cells less likely to aggregate in the vessels.

I'm on a low dose of a statin & I have no side effects but I do go to a total of 2 gyms 5X a week which helps, etc.

It seems I have an intolerance to all statins. Nausea, vomiting and dizzines.

Statins make the antibiotic doxycycline not work. Just found that out - three weeks of abs to try to get rid of a chest infection.

David Colloby, as I found out,trouble is no one listens esp the doc when you tell them,,I've had severe leg cramps and muscular distress,I stopped taking stations but still suffering long term effects 😡

Alan Waites, I had a stroke brain stem in 2009 they thought it was stress which losing everything can do to you..I guess? I think it was my pets I worried about most around that crash..

grapevinehats, I wouldn't even try them I heard so much bad about them. I was barely borderline when they tried too give them to me got it down no pills..with my body it's best

Gary Newton, I am lucky and have not suffered from any problems and have been taking them for about 20 years. Of course I was getting lethargic and found out I had low testosterone and give myself a shot every two weeks, maybe that gives me a little more energy.
