Cactuses (or cacti) of this type have quite a long life span – it takes them more than 50 years to develop one of their bristly side arms. It's an interesting fact that the arms of this plant increase its reproductive capacity.

Some botanists say that the plant is able to live up to 150 years while its average height is about 45 ft! These big boys grow slowly and have enough time to become so huge.

The largest recorded Saguaro is 78 feet in height and has more prongs than the Cardon which max recorded height is 63 ft. Don't believe everything you read online. This question is spot on correct.

You should see the Pipe Organ cacti in S.W. Arizona. They only grow about 1" per year and they have some that have to be 30-40 feet tall!
