The ostrich is widely famous for his incredible speed: it has been mentioned and presented many times not only in textbooks, but also in fiction, movies, TV-shows and other works of art. The ostrich can run at speeds of up to 45 mph if necessary. This flightless bird is either one or two species of large flightless birds native to Africa, the only living member(s) of the genus Struthio, which is in the ratite family. Starting in 2014, the Somali ostrich is now considered a full species separate from the common ostrich.
