Which is the middle chapter of a standard modern-day Bible?

There are 929 chapters in the Old Testament and 260 chapters in the New Testament. This gives a total of 1,189 chapters. So we need to find out where Chapter number 595 is found since it would be at the exact middle of the list of chapters (594 chapters before it, 594 chapters after it). A standard edition of the bible begins with the five books of the Pentateuch, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy; these contain altogether 187 chapters. Then there are the so-called historical books, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1&2 Samuel, 1&2 Kings, 1&2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther; these give altogether another 249 chapters. Then comes the book of Job which appears just before Psalms and which has 42 chapters. So, up to the end of the book of Job there are altogether 478 chapters. Add on another 117 chapters and we get to the middle of the list of Bible chapters (the 595th Chapter). So Psalm 117 is indeed exactly at the middle of the list.

I find nothing offensive in this question. It asks something ABOUT a religious book, not whether the particular religious book is true or false.

Jamie Lynn, I hate questions about James Bond—I don’t enjoy the books and have managed to avoid most of the movies, so I miss most of the questions. Should I complain each time a question is asked about that subject? Or just try to learn something and go on?

Please stop complaining about the subjects of questions here. Dang near EVERYTHING has trivia associated with it. Some are fairly obvious/proveable, others not so much. Others, ie. how many feathers on an eagle, could have multiple 'correct' answers. Why don't we all just lighten up a tad?

cwisconsin, this is a trivia game therefore it makes all the questions trivial, so y pick on only one question to grumble about? As I am not an American I could grumble about the age of becoming a president, but this is just a game, so don't get yr knickers in a twist over one question. Grow balls, play the game and learn, or not.

The problem with the question is it uses the the term "standard bible". So does it mean standard protestant or standard catholic bible. They differ from each other.

The chapters aren't equal in length, so if you are seeking the physically middle chapter, it will vary with the edition.

Define standard. Protastant Bible has seven fewer books than the Catholic Bible. The middle would be different between the two.

David Cass, You could learn something. For example, you could learn that Psalms is Christian only through adoption. It is a Jewish book. Furthermore, Islam considers Psalms (Zabur) as holy.
