In the Bible, dogs are considered ill-tempered scavengers. They are animals to be tolerated, but not loved. The only breed of dog mentioned by name in the Bible is the greyhound (Proverbs 30:29-31, King James Version). This fact about a named dog in the Bible is really interesting since dogs are mentioned 9 times in the New Testament (Greek) and 32 times in the Old Testament (Hebrew).

In appearance, Greyhounds have very short fur, which is easy to maintain. There are approximately thirty recognized color forms, of which variations of white, brindle, fawn, black, red and blue (gray) can appear uniquely, or in combination. Greyhounds are dolichocephalic (they have long skulls). The skull is relatively long in comparison to its breadth, and an elongated muzzle is a standard feature.

The breed (Greyhound) is seen as intelligent, gentle with a quiet disposition, and in spite of its great athletic ability, is content to spend most of the day sleeping. They are also considered devoted, loyal, playful, sociable, and affectionate in most cases. As a breed, the Greyhound is one of the oldest breeds of dogs, tracing back over thousands and thousands of years to early cave drawings.
