The 1989 World Series was billed as the "Battle of the Bay" between the Oakland A's and the San Francisco Giants. Before the game, no one expected the geographical features of the region to be displayed so prominently.

But shortly before the beginning of Game 3, the 6.9 magnitude Lorna Prieta earthquake struck, rocking the stadium. Everyone was shocked and frightened, and this natural disaster became the first major earthquake in America to be broadcast on live television. The damage to the stadium was minimal and no harm was done to the people present.

Shortly afterward, fans in the stadium were heard cheering "Let's play ball".. But a power outage forced the game to be postponed. Moments later, baseball officials learned that the damage to the rest of the Bay Area, unfortunately, was far greater. 63 people were killed in northern California, more than 3 thousand people were injured and more than 10 thousand residents were left homeless.

It was decided to postpone the game for 10 days. It became the longest delay in World Series history, after which the Oakland A's won in a sweep.

The victory was not celebrated out of respect for all the victims of this powerful natural disaster. By the way, the large loss of life was prevented by the game, as 62 thousand people were present at the stadium and weren't on the road in the rush hour.
