The Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company was an American motor vehicle manufacturer based in Buffalo, New York, which was active from 1901 to 1938. Although best known for its expensive luxury cars, the company also manufactured commercial trucks, fire trucks, boats, camp trailers, motorcycles, and bicycles. Pierce-Arrow was a status symbol, owned by many Hollywood stars and tycoons, and a favorite was the Pierce-Arrow Town Car. Most of the royalty of the world had at least one Pierce-Arrow in its collection.

In 1934, the company brought out a new line of automobiles. The Pierce-Arrow 1240A Convertible Coupe in the picture was one of them. The 1934 models had more rounded bodies with less chrome. The triple tail light that had been used since the mid-1920s was replaced by tail lights formed into the rear fenders, similar to the trademark Pierce-Arrow headlights. The models 1240A and 1248A used a twelve-cylinder engine. Nine factory body styles plus custom Brunn bodies were available on the twelve-cylinder chassis.
