Howard Shore (b. October 18, 1946, age 76 as of 2022) is a Canadian composer and conductor noted for his film scores. He has composed the scores for over 80 films, most notably the scores for "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" film trilogies. He has won three Academy Awards for his work on "The Lord of the Rings", with one being for the song "Into the West", an award he shared with Eurythmics lead vocalist Annie Lennox and writer/producer Fran Walsh, who wrote the lyrics. HeShore is known for being a consistent collaborator with director David Cronenberg, having scored 18 films since 1979.

David Cronenberg is best known for exploring life and death themes through sci-fi horror films such as "Shivers" (1975), "Scanners" (1981), "Videodrome" (1983) and "The Fly" (1986), though he has also directed dramas, psychological thrillers, and gangster films.
